Bye Bye English IV. Ty for all!

We had 10 blog assignments that were interesting to developing some writings skills. These blogs helped me to remember English vocabulary and reuse the grammar. However, I think we should use those 2 hours per week practicing our fluency and pronunciation instead being writing a blog assignment. You can learn writing skills staying sit in your home and reading some information from internet written in English language. But, not always you will have a really good teacher to improve your oral skills. Also, when you have to write something you have a lot of chances to use translator, dictionary, etc. For this reason, I think the best way to learn English is talking with others persons. Furthermore, we were 20 people in the classroom, so we could interact easily with the class members and our teacher.

The English lessons must be really exploited since it is one of the most important knowledge when you are trying to get a job. Besides, if you know English you will earn more money working fewer hours.

In the future I wouldn’t include anything blog assignment. I’d prefer keep practicing oral skills and learn new vocabulary working in the classroom with my mates and teacher.

If I had to schedule the next English Class, I’d use the 4 hours per week to improve oral skills and I’d send a short homework to improve writing skills.

Do Schools Kill Creativity?

Creativity expert, Sir Ken Robinson asserts that schools kill creativity. Just a few years in our educational system and kids say adios to their innate creative abilities. Creativity defined as creating something original and useful.

Notice that creativity's definition (creating something original and useful) is not limited to the arts; it includes all disciplines.

And, using that definition, you'll understand exactly why we would want creativity in education. Therefore, innovation has been & will continue to be the key to improving the world.

In my opinion, the educational system is based on a faulty belief that all children must know a specific set of "standards." The basic assumption of the system is wrong. This isn't something that can be tweaked with a few changes and more emphasis on creativity. The entire thing needs to be turned on its head. Instead of emphasizing teaching, start thinking about learning. How do kids (and all people) learn? By following their interests. Just as the kids are already creative, they already love to learn. But both traits are beat out of them by coercion. I completely agree that kids need down time, failure, play & opportunities for creativity. Note, though, that opportunities are options offered, not forced.

National Holidays in Chile / Fiestas Patrias en Chile.

As I love the history, I will start this post talking about the origins of our Fiestas Patrias.

The two-day Fiestas Patrias, or Dieciocho, marks Sept. 18 as Chilean Independence Day, commemorating the beginning of Chilean independence from Spain, and Sept. 19 as the "Day of Glories of the Army."

The Chilean War of Independence was fought between the pro-independence Chilean criollos seeking independence from Spain and royalist criollos wanting to maintain a relationship with the Spanish Empire. The fighting began in 1810 and extended over 11 years, and ended with royalist being expelled from the continent.

Fiestras Patrias is an expression of Chilean culture and traditions and is celebrated with rodeo, dancing the cueca, going to fondas (tents), raising volantines (kites), and barbecue.

The food associated with Fiestras Patrias is the Chilean empanadas stuffed with pino -- a mixture of chopped beef and onion and half a boiled egg, raisins and an olive. Also, there are plenty of barbecues because we usually share this food with all the family. The favorite drink is chicha, piscolas and terremotos. The last one is the most delicious for me because it has pipeño (wine), pine apple ice cream and grenadine. Every Chilean people should love these meals.

 La Piojera (Santiago, Chile).

My Favorite Band: Queen

Since I was 12 years old Queen has been my favourite rock band. Queen was a british rock band formed on 70s constituted by Freddie Mercury(vocals and piano), Brian May (lead Guitar), John Deacon (Bass Guitar) and Roger Taylor (Drums).

I grew up listening to Queen's music because It was my mom's favourite band too. When we were going to school and I felt sad she turned the radio on and put "Don't stop me now". That used to make me really happy. Most of the bands/artists I like were influeced by Queen. For example: Guns N' Roses, Bon Jovi, George Michael, etc.

When I began to learn music I used to listen Queen every day because I wanted to play the piano as Freddie Mercury or composing a guitar solo as Brian May. However, I tried a lot of times and I never reached a good level playing musical instruments. Therefore, I started to reading about history or any themes related with the public affairs.

In my last year of high school I decided to leave at all the music and I decided to sign in this career, Public Administration. It was the best choice, I guess because of I’m love with this career.

Fifa president candidate Chung Mong-joon compares Sepp Blatter to ‘cannibal’

Chung Mong-joon is a former FIFA vice-president who is trying to raise a candidacy to replace the current president of FIFA, Joseph Blatter. The South Korean decided starting this career for the maximum seat of FIFA to conclude all the corruption episodes that were founded for the FBI during last months. Some corruption cases were fake features about the terms to sheltering the future FIFA world’s cups. These speculations were confirmed for the former ANFP president, Harold Mayne-Nicholls, who said that Russian and Qatar had the worst features to receive the two next FIFA world’s cups.

To terminate with the corruption in the football, Chung commented against Blatter describing the last one as a cannibal eating his parents and then crying like he’s an orphan. Chung said this because of Blatter has avoided his responsibility for the crisis that has engulfed FIFA over the last few months.
Chuang said he will get the CONCACAF support to initiate his candidacy and then he will try to convince the countries of his region, that is to say, The Asian Football Federation. He requires at least 5 FIFA federations who support him to enroll his candidature.

Chung will have to fight for the FIFA throne against Michele Platitini, who is the actual president of UEFA, but he would be engulfed in the current corruption FIFA system. So, if FIFA wants to be renewed, the South Korean is the best option.

About my future JOB

As I said in previous entries, I’m studying public administration in the Universidad de Chile. Therefore, I will be a public administrator. So, in first place I would like to work in the public sector. I will try to avoid the private sector because of I’m not studying to use my knowledge in this area. I would like to start working in a municipality to contribute in the development of my community. After this, I want to sign up in the central government, in others words, working in ministers, intendances, embassies and so on. I love the public affairs. I always read about democracy, kinds of governments, political history, and politic science, that is to say, everything in relation to the public administration.

For obvious reasons, these activities are indoor and you have to work in a desk. However, you could travel a lot if you work in a minister or embassy, due to you should visit developed countries to increase the Chilean welfare. The biggest difficulty to get these jobs is the “contact” or “pituto” in the Chilean way.  Anyway, if you are the best in your area, you will make good contacts or you will be contacted for the government for your inputs to the public administration.

Also, if you don’t have luck to enter to public sector you still can look for a job in the private sector. I’ve always thought that import things from China are a very good idea to make business.

Education in Chile

During last years, we’ve been participants or spectators of many student strikes that pose an improvement to educational reform through plans to improve the quality of education.

Everybody remember the "Revolucion Pinguina in 2006" year where presented the same problems that we face today and weren't resolved efficiently. This is why this year were resumed the protests for get equity in education, equality of opportunities regardless the money, lower university tariffs and end with the profit in the education, because when you start a university career you end paying a mortgage credit but in education, that must to be a right and not a privilege.

In Chile exists a free trade in education and somebody that has money can open a educational enterprise. Therefore the education quality doesn't matter and just matters make money. Also there isn't an institution that regulates the equality in the new establishments that they are appearing. Compared with Latin-American countries, the Chilean state just pays the 15% of all that needs in university education.

Chile invests in education 0.3% GDP and 3.73% in Armed Forces; however this makes no sense because at the moment there aren't war conflicts with other countries that it could justify this money. Therefore the armed forces are the best the best option for give more money to education and get a universal free education in Chile.

HOLIDAYS

My last holidays were on summer. On first place, I visited Pucón with 3 school friends. We were there for 18 days. We went on December and we had to come back to Santiago because we wanted to stay with our families in Christmas. In pucon, we visited the volcano, went to the lake, swam on the swimming pool and had lots of parties. Then, in January I went to Antofagasta with 2 cousins who live in the Second Region of Chile. I spent my time trying to visit all the tourists places of the zone because of it was my first time in Antofagasta. I didn’t even plan visit this Region, so I could say that was just lucky because I met with my cousins one day before they start the trip and they invited to me in that moment. I didn’t doubt one moment and I said YES, I WANT TO GO. It was a really interesting place. You must visit Antofagasta. I stayed there for 7 days. After that, I came back to Santiago until February and I went to Pichilemu to practice surf. I’m still learning this sport, but I can pull up on the surfboard! It is really exciting.

Paris

When people ask me about the place I always wanted to go, I will simply say “Paris”. Then they will ask me again, why “Paris” ? Why “Paris” ? That is the question and I don't know why and how to answer it. This time, I will try to answer this question.

The city of lights’, ‘the city of Romance’, ‘the culinary capital of the world’, all these are just names Paris, France is known by. Over seven million people visit each year. Paris, France is one of the most amazing places you will ever visit. There are so many phenomenal things to see and do you’ll never get bored.

The most Prominent landmark in Paris would have to be the Eiffel Tower. So, I wouldn’t like to die before visit this place because of I want to know the history and culture of France. The Eiffel Tower took two years to build; it was finished on March 31, 1889. The Eiffel Tower was originally built for the world exhibition in 1889, but today it is used as a radio transmission tower and a tourist attraction. The Eiffel Tower is named after Gustave Eiffel, the main contractor and architect. However, at the moment I don’t know more information or facts about France. For this reason, I will manage a possible exchange in France. My biggest dream is finish my Administration Public career in Paris.

Greetings.

Tourism industry and some places to visit.

On first place, I want to complain against the tourism industry. This industry wants you to buy cruise packages and stay at all-inclusive resorts. They want you to choose a world travel experience the same way you would choose a new jacket at the mall. They just want your credit card number and take your fund.

Anyway, my first destination would be New York City because I want to know The Time Square and the Statue of liberty. Then, I would work 1 month in Seattle due to I could earn 15 U$ per hour, the biggest wage in the USA.

Later, I’d travel to Spain to know the stadiums of the soccer clubs and watch a soccer match as Real Madrid v/s Barcelona. Also, I’d visit France to take some photos of the Eiffel Tower. Then, I’d go to Italy to eat the best pizza of the world and I’d try to learn Italian language.

After that, I’d visit Singapore because it has the highest Human Development Index (HDI), for this reason, I’d study this country to bring some public policies to increase our HDI. Therefore, I wouldn't like live in these places because I want to improve the welfare society in Chile.
