Bye Bye English IV. Ty for all!

We had 10 blog assignments that were interesting to developing some writings skills. These blogs helped me to remember English vocabulary and reuse the grammar. However, I think we should use those 2 hours per week practicing our fluency and pronunciation instead being writing a blog assignment. You can learn writing skills staying sit in your home and reading some information from internet written in English language. But, not always you will have a really good teacher to improve your oral skills. Also, when you have to write something you have a lot of chances to use translator, dictionary, etc. For this reason, I think the best way to learn English is talking with others persons. Furthermore, we were 20 people in the classroom, so we could interact easily with the class members and our teacher.

The English lessons must be really exploited since it is one of the most important knowledge when you are trying to get a job. Besides, if you know English you will earn more money working fewer hours.

In the future I wouldn’t include anything blog assignment. I’d prefer keep practicing oral skills and learn new vocabulary working in the classroom with my mates and teacher.

If I had to schedule the next English Class, I’d use the 4 hours per week to improve oral skills and I’d send a short homework to improve writing skills.

Do Schools Kill Creativity?

Creativity expert, Sir Ken Robinson asserts that schools kill creativity. Just a few years in our educational system and kids say adios to their innate creative abilities. Creativity defined as creating something original and useful.

Notice that creativity's definition (creating something original and useful) is not limited to the arts; it includes all disciplines.

And, using that definition, you'll understand exactly why we would want creativity in education. Therefore, innovation has been & will continue to be the key to improving the world.

In my opinion, the educational system is based on a faulty belief that all children must know a specific set of "standards." The basic assumption of the system is wrong. This isn't something that can be tweaked with a few changes and more emphasis on creativity. The entire thing needs to be turned on its head. Instead of emphasizing teaching, start thinking about learning. How do kids (and all people) learn? By following their interests. Just as the kids are already creative, they already love to learn. But both traits are beat out of them by coercion. I completely agree that kids need down time, failure, play & opportunities for creativity. Note, though, that opportunities are options offered, not forced.

National Holidays in Chile / Fiestas Patrias en Chile.

As I love the history, I will start this post talking about the origins of our Fiestas Patrias.

The two-day Fiestas Patrias, or Dieciocho, marks Sept. 18 as Chilean Independence Day, commemorating the beginning of Chilean independence from Spain, and Sept. 19 as the "Day of Glories of the Army."

The Chilean War of Independence was fought between the pro-independence Chilean criollos seeking independence from Spain and royalist criollos wanting to maintain a relationship with the Spanish Empire. The fighting began in 1810 and extended over 11 years, and ended with royalist being expelled from the continent.

Fiestras Patrias is an expression of Chilean culture and traditions and is celebrated with rodeo, dancing the cueca, going to fondas (tents), raising volantines (kites), and barbecue.

The food associated with Fiestras Patrias is the Chilean empanadas stuffed with pino -- a mixture of chopped beef and onion and half a boiled egg, raisins and an olive. Also, there are plenty of barbecues because we usually share this food with all the family. The favorite drink is chicha, piscolas and terremotos. The last one is the most delicious for me because it has pipeño (wine), pine apple ice cream and grenadine. Every Chilean people should love these meals.

My Favorite Band: Queen

Since I was 12 years old Queen has been my favourite rock band. Queen was a british rock band formed on 70s constituted by Freddie Mercury(vocals and piano), Brian May (lead Guitar), John Deacon (Bass Guitar) and Roger Taylor (Drums).

I grew up listening to Queen's music because It was my mom's favourite band too. When we were going to school and I felt sad she turned the radio on and put "Don't stop me now". That used to make me really happy. Most of the bands/artists I like were influeced by Queen. For example: Guns N' Roses, Bon Jovi, George Michael, etc.

When I began to learn music I used to listen Queen every day because I wanted to play the piano as Freddie Mercury or composing a guitar solo as Brian May. However, I tried a lot of times and I never reached a good level playing musical instruments. Therefore, I started to reading about history or any themes related with the public affairs.

In my last year of high school I decided to leave at all the music and I decided to sign in this career, Public Administration. It was the best choice, I guess because of I’m love with this career.
